Hey guys...
So I have been gone for 2 years from this blog. (Kinda forgot about it)
Well now I am in college and I thought I might get back into blogging.

I am a First Year dance major and I am absolutely loving it. It has been a difficult adjustment but I am loving it. I take 4 ballet classes a week and 3 modern classes, not including other rehearsals for shows.
This was a photo taken from one of my shows recently. We did an adaptation of Giselle 
In addition to being a dance major, I am also going to try and double in biology or take a lot of biology classes since my goal is to be a physical therapist. I think soon I am going to be posting more of my experiences with college auditions last year and what I think about dance majors now. So I guess I will be back soon.

February 2014!

So this is what I have decided to do with this blog...I am so sorry for being completely useless on posting...but I think a monthly update is the best thing for me to do.

This year again I went to Nexstar to compete my solo!
I had an amazing time at this competition, unlike last year a lot of my studio went as well.
This was kinda a last min thing for me and I registered like 5 days before I competed.
This was also the first competition of they year!
I got 3rd Overall and I got first runner up for Title :)

I love KAR it is one of my favorite competitions ever!
The only downside to this competition this year was I sprained my ankle again like 3 days before we competed. (I'll go into more detail at the end of the blogpost).
This time my entire studio went and we competed tons of group dances and solos and trios and duets.
Even with a sprained ankle we still managed to do well at KAR.
My group dances got 1st, 3rd, and 4th Overall.
Also my solo got 1st Overall!
I had an amazing day competing.

Carnival of Animals:
So this was a performances for kids in my community.
My studio for the 3rd year was asked to perform with our county symphony for a kids show.
We did the Carnival of Animals and I was the Cuckoo bird as a well as part of the Aviary.
I was planning to do the performance on pointe but my ankle was not strong enough to do it quite yet.

Sprained Ankle:
If you have been reading this blog you will know in October of 2013 I sprained my ankle in ballet class. I just landed it wrong out of a small jump. Well I guess from that I had a weakness in my ankle so right before my competition, in pointe class this time, I sprained it again. I was doing a left leap and just landed on it wrong and kinda fell to the floor. It was bad, I was so freaked out about having to compete and it was terrible. I was probably more sad about no competing than the pain of spraining it. So I iced it and compressed it and rested it and was able to compete. Not going to lie it did not feel good dancing on it like 3 days later. My dance teacher taped it all up with KT Tape and that helped a little bit. KT Tape works except it did not really stick very well to my skin or support it a lot.

I hope you like this format of a blogpost. If I have time I might do some random posts here and there in-between months but I think that this is really going to work for me and make me be able to post without being pressured for time to do so.

Ballet Audition Season!

Its beginning to look a lot like audition season! Everywhere I go..there are ads in the magazines also on the tv screen with lots of places for me to GO!
Yeah I tried to be creative and put it into song form...
SO yeah auditions for summer intensives start NEXT WEEKEND!
I just realized I need photos for an audition next Sunday and my teacher leaves in 2 days so I am kinda freaking out and hoping she can do them tomorrow.
I am super nervous for auditions because my teacher wants me to audition for really hard places to get into and I am not sure that I will get in...but at least I am trying :)

Injury Recovery

Hey so I thought I would tell you about my injury recovery and what I do even if it is a small injury.
1) I ice it, I have a cold pack that is flexible and I use a scarf to tie it around the area.
2) I use a TON of arnica. Arnica is a natural gel that soothes bruising or swellings and it really works.
3) I use Icy Hot or Tiger Balm and put it on to make it feel better when I can't ice.
4) I stay off of it. This rule is hard for me to follow myself. For us, being dancers, it is really hard for use to NOT dance. But give it time to heal properly and don't rush back to dance if you are really injured. What helps me is to put something on that area to remind me not to use it. For example I just sprained my ankle, I wore my splint at dance so I couldn't try to dance even if I wanted to. As it healed and I didn't need the splint I am now putting a one leg warmer on it. This makes if feel different that the other leg and I won't use it as much.

These are just my tips on what I do to help me recover.
Also eating better and sleep are just tips that you should be doing always but they do help speed up recovery.

:/ Nervous /:

Hey so my ankle still hurts from being sprained but I have the Nutcracker photoshoot tomorrow that I supposed to be in for Due Drop. The photoshoot is on pointe and I am super nervous about it since it still kinda hurts to do much. Hopefully it will all be ok, its not like a huge dance photoshoot it is more just pictures of us in tutus and pointe shoes so it won't be to straining on my ankle.

Sprained Ankle

Hey guys so on Wednesday I sprained my ankle in dance class. I was doing a small jump and landed on my ankle rolled. The thing is it didn't hurt much when I did it and I iced it for a while but then I got up and marked the dance for a performance. It hurt more on Thursday at school and after I went to the Urgent Care because no other doctors were available. I got x-rays and it was just a sprain but I'm out of dance for about a week-ish. I have a splint for it and I am taking it easy. There is a nutcracker photo shoot on Tuesday that I was supposed to be apart of but idk if I can now. I really want to be in it but I will have to put on pointe shoes and go on pointe and idk if I will be able to. The main message in this blog post is to be carful and not to over do yourself.

So I have a blister on my pinky toe right now and I am going to tell you what I do when I get a blister
First: I soak my feet in epson salt with is a soothing salt that makes you feet feel amazing after pointe and it will dry out you blister a little bit. If I don't have epson salt I will do an ice bath.
Second: If it isn't that bad I will rube rubbing alcohol on it so it dies it out. I only do this if it is not too deep because that can STING!
Third: The next time I have to do pointe and I have a blister I will put New-Skin on it. This will also sting if it is open deep enough but it adds a layer on top of your skin and prevents it from getting worse.

Sometimes I will tape my toes but that is really rare. My teacher doesn't like us to take our toes she wants us to get callaces and build up our feet and thats what I try to do instead of taping them.
